ACT Launches CYNAPSE: Aiming to Add 100 to Cyber Workforce by 2024
ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr has launched CYNAPSE, a new program aiming to boost the cyber workforce by at least 100 people by 2024. The initiative, developed in Canberra, Australia's cyber capital, seeks to increase diversity and inclusion in the cyber industry.
CYNAPSE, led by sovereign tech company FifthDomain and backed by the Federal Government, aims to standardise cyber skills assessments. This will help remove barriers to entry and reduce unconscious bias in recruitment. The program hopes to increase the representation of women, currently at around 17%, and open doors for underrepresented groups such as neurodiverse individuals, First Nations Australians, transitioning veterans, and people living in remote areas.
The initiative will prepare candidates for working in Security Operations Centres and provide employers with insights to improve workforce participation. It also aims to help employers hire cyber staff more efficiently and provide students with realistic job scenarios.
