Abandoned Electric Vehicles Worth Over £275k Found Abandoned on Nottingham Roads Following Bankruptcy of American Tesla Competitor

Rewritten Article:

Nine brand-spanking-new Fisker electric cars, worth between £278k and £520k, are sitting pretty, or rather, rotting away, on the side of a quiet road in Nottingham. Why, you ask? Well, the Tesla-rivaling brand, Fisker, filed for bankruptcy in June 2024, and these cars were part of their EV Arm – the Fisker Group – that operated under a Californian business.

The Fisker Group failed to meet sales targets for their Ocean SUV and was forced to cease trading on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) after their stock price consistently dropped below $1 for 30 consecutive days. Currently, there are 419 registered Fisker Oceans in the UK, with nine of them abandoned on the streets of Nottingham.

These vehicular orphans are like a dying swan – they look stunning with their zero-emission, 'fully vegan' interiors made from recycled materials, but they're slowly withering away outside the premium dealership, Premium Central Performance and Prestige Cars, that was holding them before Fisker's liquidation.

Interestingly, the prices for the ocean, which were aimed at challenging Elon Musk's EV dominance, ranged from £30,900 to £57,900 in the UK depending on the trim level. Unfortunately, the exact trim levels of these nine abandoned cars are unknown.

Locals have reported seeing these unmoved electric cars along Colwick Road and Racecourse Road since last year, but it seems the combined 22 tons of these shiny EVs have yet to budge. There's been no word on when these cars will finally be removed, but the local council has reportedly issued seven-day removal notices, as they can't be left to rot forever.

If you own one of the remaining 400 Fisker Oceons in the UK or have any information about these abandoned cars, feel free to reach out to [email protected].

For those who may still be enjoying their Fisker Ocean, it's essential to know that this EV has been plagued with issues, even before its manufacturer filed for bankruptcy. Problems like rapid battery draining, brake failure, and unexpected window openings when parked have been reported. And when owners tried to get these issues fixed, they found it increasingly difficult as the company's financial situation worsened.

Leasing companies pulled Fisker from their listings once the company went into liquidation, and the last UK sales center, based in Milton Keynes, closed down shortly thereafter. Those who bought vehicles outright may not be as lucky as those who leased them and could potentially be stuck with an unrepairable EV.

Interestingly, despite the challenges, a company called American Lease agreed to buy around 3,300 cars from Fisker's remaining inventory last year for $46.3 million. They also paid an additional $2.5 million to access Fisker's servers for five years in order to provide over-the-air updates to their customers. But once these five years are up, UK owners could be left without any updates, making their cars potentially unfixable.

There are also concerns regarding the supply of replacement mechanical parts for the cars due to failing components, damage from accidents, and general wear and tear. Without a supply, these cars are ultimately unfixable. Furthermore, finding an EV mechanic to repair them could be challenging due to a significant lack of qualified mechanics at independent garages.

Fisker's closure comes only eight years after it was launched by veteran Danish car designer Henrik Fisker, the man behind the BMW Z8 sports car in the 1990s. He had ambitious plans to create additional EVs to the range alongside the Ocean SUV, with Magna slated to assemble their vehicles to avoid the massive investment of building factories.

The company managed to deliver around 10,000 Oceans MCUs before it went bankrupt in 2024, with only 4,000 deliveries in the UK. If you're an owner and need help with your vehicle, [email protected] is your guy.
