104 Foreign Children Fail Mandatory Russian Language Test in Nizhny Novgorod
In Nizhny Novgorod, 247 children sat for the mandatory Russian language test, with 104 failing to meet the passing mark. This test, introduced on April 1, 2025, is a prerequisite for enrollment in local schools.
This academic year, 143 foreign children have been enrolled in the city's schools. The test results show that many children need additional Russian language instruction to meet the enrollment requirements. Out of 267 applications received from foreign citizens, 104 did not pass the test. These children are now offered additional language classes to prepare for a retake. Meanwhile, 107 students have been enrolled in the first grade, with fewer in other grades.
The Russian language test has proven to be a significant barrier for some foreign children seeking enrollment in Nizhny Novgorod schools. With 104 children failing the test, additional language support is being offered to help them meet the enrollment requirements.
